During the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia, Czechoslovak resistance operatives carried out an assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, one of the most prominent and curel Nazi leaders. At the time, Heydrich served as the governor of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The operation, known as ‘Operation Anthropoid,’ targeted Heydrich and led to his death. In response, the SS troops undertook a series of brutal reprisals, which included the destruction of villages and the killing of civilians.
